They call it a classic theater because it's one of the older neighborhood theaters. It doesn't have stadium seating, nor does it have many screens, but it does show films that are in theaters now. The ticket prices are about half of what you pay for the stadiums with stadium seating. It is an older theater that has been somewhat renovated, but it still shows its age. If you don't mind being in an "older" theater you can catch a current movie and save a bit of money in the process.
As a long-time customer of this theater when it was the Carmike 7, we're very disappointed in the changes made since AMC purchased it. The biggest change made is in the movies that are offered, and that change has NOT been a positive. They are now showing the same movies offered at every other theater in town. The best part of this theater has always been that it offered variety and choices from other theaters. Now we have no choices. Beyond that, AMC has done little-to-nothing to improve the theater or its grounds (parking lot is in terrible condition) ... concessions are expensive, ticket prices have gone up. Any benefit to going to this theater is now non-existent. I would have expected more thought into how AMC could have created a better experience for the theater's customers and the community in general. I don't care about the cost of the movies, so if my choices have been taken away, I might as well go to a nicer theater, even if it costs a bit more. As for concessions .... those prices are outrageous everywhere .... we take care of that by treating ourselves to dinner either before or after the movie (I can actually go out for a full dinner on what I don't spend for popcorn, candy or sodas at the theater. How ridiculous is that?!) :-(
Since AMC took over the old Carmike theater, prices went threw the roof. It's still the same old place with the same old seats but plan on spending 10 bucks for a small popcorn and 5 bucks on a soda. Ticket prices were also raised and is no longer affordable for a night out with the kids. If you're going to spend that kind of money...go to another updated theater. You probably won't spend much more money and you will certainly get a more comfortable seat. And if by chance you brave it out like my family did, just hope you don't have to watch a movie in theater 4. You will hear popcorn popping in the background as well as someone banging dishes around. Quite entertaining when you're trying to watch a movie.
The showing of the movie was good and the clear, sound was good. The theater is on the older and smaller size so set your expectations based on that. On the up side the staff was very friendly. I will go there again in the future.
AMC screwed this one up! Now Rock Hill doesn't have a 2nd run cheaper movie theatre. Manchester will unfortunately get my money if we ever decide to go to the movies anymore..with the rise of streaming media and home theatre systems this run down dinosaur was only on life support because of its cheaper price. NOT ANYMORE it's dead now...
